It is early warning against an insurance claim, a ruined electrical system, a salvage bill or the call every owner dreads: your boat has gone adrift. The right system must detect genuine problems quickly, use very little power, and alert the people who can do something about it.
1. Once-per-second monitoring of critical systems
Slow reporting leaves too much room for damage. A yacht can begin flooding quickly after a hose failure, fitting leak or failed bilge pump. It can also move unexpectedly when a mooring line parts or an anchor starts to drag in a squall.
Look for monitoring that checks inputs once per second rather than at wide reporting intervals. Fast detection matters most when the risk is escalating, such as rising bilge water, fire, an intruder entering the vessel or excessive roll.
